Flexible Service Starts in April

With flexible service being introduced in April members are starting to ask – how will it affect me.
Answer is it depends on your circumstances, but we will be happy to advise on its implications, given your individual circumstances. But general points to note are…
  • Reduction in pension accrual will be proportionate (so 20% reduction in hours worked, leads to 20% reduction in pension accrual for duration of flexible service)
  • Existing benefits secured prior to flexible service remain unaffected.
  • Benefit calculation for those with transitional protection is more complex than for those that were automatically transferred to/ or have joined AFPS15.
  • EDP and immediate pension qualification dates unaffected by flexible service.
