No. 2 Pension Enquiry TOP10

For Pensions Awareness Week – an example of the pension questions we receive, helping you better understand your pension. Here’s one on McCloud

Question:

For those considering leaving in the next few years are the EDP rules of 18/40 still going to apply to those on the 05 Scheme even after they join the 15 scheme after 31 Mar 22?

Answer:

Yes, if you have completed 18 years total service (it doesn’t matter if that time is on AFPS05 or a mixture of AFPS05/15) and you are aged 40 or over when you leave, you will receive an AFPS05 Early Departure Payment (EDP). Likewise, if you stay on to complete 20 years’ service, you will receive an AFPS15 EDP albeit that only a fraction of that time will have been on AFPS15.
