In addition to the commercial offers on this list, the Society continues to offer a pro bono generic financial consultation with Forces Moneyplan to all members.
This is complementary to our own pension service and deals with wider financial issues. There has been some misunderstanding about this and one or two of you have accused us of foisting unwanted financial advice on you. We have done nothing of the sort. This is a free service – which does not try to sell you anything but does produce useful answers which are actively helping members manage their finances and in some cases identifying dangers they were unaware of. You don’t have to use it, but it is a tool we put at your disposal – and given the complexity of the current finance market and the increasing prevalence of scams – including those targeting Service personnel and Veterans, we believe it is a useful one.
Originally introduced as an initiative with BLESMA, Forces Moneyplan launched with FPS in December 2018, 156 members have sought consultations,120 have been completed and the feedback has been extremely positive. This initiative is producing useful answers which are actively helping members manage their finances and in some cases identifying dangers they were unaware of. Discussions might include the advantages/ disadvantages of different types of savings and investments, how to build a financial plan for the future or simply have greater control of your routine finances (including debt).
