Forces Pension Society Appoints New Chief Executive

November 8, 2018
Neil Marshall

We are very pleased to announce that our new Chief Executive, replacing John Pitt-Brooke, will be Major General Neil Marshall OBE

Neil Marshall retired from the Army last year after a career which included service in Germany, Belize, Canada, Cyprus, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. His final appointment in the Army was as the Senior British Military Advisor to United States Central Command, where he was responsible for providing strategy and policy advice covering 20 countries from Egypt in the west through the Middle East to Pakistan via Afghanistan in the east. Since May 2017, Neil has worked as an independent defence, leadership development and training support consultant and remains a Senior Military Mentor at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham.

Confirming the appointment, the Chairman of the Society’s Council, Lieutenant General Sir Gerry Berragan, said “I am absolutely delighted that Neil is to be the Society’s new Chief Executive. He will bring to the Society deep experience across the Armed Forces, and the strategic and leadership skills that we need as we build on our extraordinary recent record of expansion and take the Society to even higher levels. The need for the Society across the Armed Forces is now greater than ever, as we face challenges arising from the complexity and uncertainty around pensions arrangements. The Society intends to provide its members with a better service than ever through these difficult times, and Neil is just the person to do that. The Council looks forward to working with him in the years ahead.”

Neil Marshall said “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Chief Executive. As a member myself, I know the Society is now at an all-time high in terms of its membership, reputation, and influence; and I look forward to guiding it through the next stage of its development. I have already met the team at the Society’s headquarters and have been bowled over by their enthusiasm and expertise – I look forward to getting to know them better and working alongside them as we meet the myriad challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Neil Marshall will be taking over from John Pitt-Brooke in January 2019.
