Falklands 40th Anniversary

This week marks the 40th anniversary of the start of the Falklands War.

Argentina invaded the Falklands on 2 April 1982, encouraging the then PM Margaret Thatcher to send UK military over to recover the islands. They withdrew on 14 June of the same year. 255 British and 649 Argentine soldiers killed, as well as three Falkland Islanders.

Events including a remembrance service for veterans at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire, will be taking place to mark the four decades that have passed.

The Royal British Legion invites Veterans of the campaign and their families, bereaved family members, and civilians who supported the Armed Forces to attend their commemorative event at the National Memorial Arboretum on Tuesday 14 June. Click for full details

Also, The ABF Soldiers’ Charity have released a special-edition podcast to mark the 40th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict, featuring testimonies from veterans who fought in the various campaign battles, and the broadcaster Robert Fox, who witnessed the conflict first-hand. Listen here
