Society Chief Executive to formally open Woolwich Armed Forces Day

Society Chief Executive Major General Neil Marshall will be the senior military representative at tomorrow’s Woolwich Armed Forces Day 2024 which is taking place at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich.

The Woolwich Armed Forces Day event is the only major event in London this year and will be eagerly supported by the Army and by the Commanding Officer Woolwich Station, Lt Col Adam Greenfield.

The event will open with a procession of cadets and veterans from central Woolwich (General Gordon Square) at 9.30am up to Barrack Field featuring over 400 military personnel, led by the Band of the Welsh Guards. Veterans will join the parade at Barrack Field for the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony will be formally opened by Neil, alongside Royal Borough of Greenwich Mayor Jit Ranabhat and Greenwich & Woolwich MP Matthew Pennycook.

Neil joined the Army and started his training at the Barracks, exactly 40 years ago in June 1984, and was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1985.  His time with the Royal Artillery is extensive, so much so that he was Honorary Regimental Colonel, 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and remains a Colonel Commandant, Royal Regiment of Artillery.

Neil is honoured represent the Chief of the Defence Staff and the Armed Forces community on such a significant day.

The event is part of a wider event entitled ‘Greenwich Get Together’ which is being delivered by the Royal Borough of Greenwich County Council supported by a small team of local dignitaries.

The event runs from 09:30 -22:00 and there will be a fantastic variety of entertainment for all ages from See Visit Greenwich Armed Forces Day 2024 for the full days timings and events.
