This Reserves Day, we’re proud to share some of the demanding and rewarding training experiences our Head of Membership – and Royal Navy Reservist – Charlotte Cooper has undertaken this year.
As part of her ongoing professional development, Charlotte has deepened her skills and broadened her understanding of wider military operations. A cornerstone of this year’s training was a sea survival course, which included rigorous instruction and assessment in ship damage control, firefighting, and the use of lifesaving equipment. These physically and technically demanding exercises also reinforced the importance of teamwork and composure under pressure – core values that underpin effective naval operations.
Charlotte’s training wasn’t limited to sea-based activities. She also completed an Information Activities course alongside colleagues from all three services. The course enabled her to collaborate across the services and gain a broader perspective on joint military operations. It also sharpened her understanding of how media operations – her specialisation within the Royal Naval Reserve –contribute to the success of both domestic and international missions.
To cap off an exceptional year with the Reserves, Charlotte earned her second stripe and was promoted to Lieutenant – congratulations, Charlotte!
In her role as the Forces Pension Society’s Head of Membership, you may have seen Charlotte recently at the CTP Employment Fair in Newbury, where she was speaking with service personnel preparing for life beyond the military.
Reflecting on her year, Charlotte said:
“My recent promotion to Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Reserves reflects my continued commitment to service and leadership, both in uniform and in my civilian capacity. The dual nature of my roles allows me to contribute to the military community in a unique and meaningful way – bridging operational understanding with long-term welfare advocacy.”
