The Society has continuously urged the MoD to fully resource the Remediable Service Statement (RSS) rollout plan and to provide timely communications to affected members. Their last update published on 9 July extended the previous delivery date to no later than 31 Dec 2025 for so called ‘non-complex cases’ and 31 March 26 for ‘complex cases’.
The Society has received a reply to a Freedom of Information request that demonstrates the MoD will not achieve the 31 March 2026 deadline for all complex RSSs to be issued. This is based on simple maths. With at least 10,000 RSSs outstanding on 1 December 2025 – and despite the additional resources allocated by the Department – less than 200 are being processed every week. This would see a shortfall of c7,000 come 31 Mar 2026 and on the current trajectory a completion date in early 2027.
At the MoD Pension Board meeting on 26 November our Chief Executive summarised the Society’s assessment. MoD officials undertook to issue an update as soon as possible including what is being done to try and close this gap. It is our understanding that those leaving the Armed Forces over the coming months should still receive their Election RSS prior to their End of Engagement date but several thousand veterans may not receive theirs until much later than anticipated.
We take no pleasure in highlighting this now inevitable outcome. The next step is for the MoD and as soon as they publish an update we will share it with you.
