Follow our ‘Question of the Week’ series for answers to topical questions covering Armed Forces Pensions
It may be Christmas, but some of you might be thinking of your imminent discharge and Pen Form 1. Your question answered this week stresses the importance of filling it in correctly.
I’m approaching my discharge date, and I know how important the AFPS Form 1 application is, but how do make sure I fill it in correctly?
As part of the discharge process you will be required to complete an AFPS Pen Form 1. It is a lengthy form which many people fill in without truly appreciating its importance.
One of the benefits of membership of the Society is that you can call our pension enquiries line and we can talk you through completing your Pen Form 1, in order that your intentions are clear and considered, and your understanding of what you are signing up to is sound. We have also created some handy notes for you which you can find here
And, did you know we also go through the form during our Financial Aspects of Resettlement (FAR) briefings, so if you are approaching retirement, and get the opportunity to, we suggest you register to attend a FAR brief, through your CTP.
You can find future FAR Brief dates here
