Question of the Week!

This week’s question circles around the rules on death/survivor’s benefits.

I retired from the Army after 26 years and am in receipt of a pension. I am moving in with a new partner soon, and wondered, if when I die will my partner be entitled to any of my pension.

The rules are as follows: AFPS75 requires couples to be married or in a civil partnership to qualify for death/survivors’ benefits. AFPS05 & AFPS15, being modern schemes, do not require partners to be married in order to qualify for survivors’ pensions – they could be married, in a civil partnership or ‘eligible partners.
