Veterans UK (the pension scheme administrator) has started to issue ‘information’ Remediable Service Statements (RSSs) to serving members who are in scope for the 2015 remedy (McCloud) and who are not yet due to leave the Armed Forces. The RSSs state in the second paragraph ‘This Remediable Service Statement (RSS) is for information only. No action is required at this time.’ Members do not require to make their remedy election choice when they receive an ‘information’ RSS. For so long as an individual remains serving, they will receive an annual information RSS free of charge.
The information RSSs outline the pension position up to the date the RSS was produced under both the member’s legacy scheme(s) and AFPS15. They are not a projection of the pension benefits that will be payable on retirement from the Armed Forces. For members who receive an RSS which states it is for ‘information only’, please do not send it to us. Our focus will be on explaining the ‘election’ RSSs sent to members who require to take action and make their remedy election choice.
You will receive an ‘election’ RSS shortly before you leave the Armed Forces which will require you to make your remedy election. When you receive your ‘election’ RSS if you require any guidance to help you make an informed decision, please send the ‘election’ RSS to us using the ‘RSS Explanation’ webform which you can access via ‘Submit a Question’ in the Members area of the Forces Pension Society website.
Please ensure that you are logged into the Members area before you click on the link. Once you have accessed the webform please follow the instructions and provide the information requested. When we receive the webform we will provide an explanation of the RSS as quickly as we can to help you make an informed decision.
