A message from the Chief Executive:
On the 22 May the Prime Minister announced that there would be a General Election on Thursday 4 July.
While manifestos have yet to be published, tough choices lie ahead for whoever forms the next government. Resourcing Defence and Security is likely to be an area of attempted campaign differentiation, and either a Spending or full Defence Review seems likely over the next 12 months.
The Society is and will remain politically neutral, but we will report on any manifesto proposals that relate to the Armed Forces Pension Scheme (AFPS), with a particular eye on Annual Allowance levels and the potential reintroduction of a Lifetime Allowance. We will also continue to monitor the approach to, and resourcing of, the Haythornthwaite Review recommendations on future AFPS options.
We firmly believe that we best serve our current and future members’ long term interests by being able to interact with the Government of the day, advocating the five pillars model shown below, that articulates the purpose of the AFPS, the 5 pillars and the links to career structures and operational effectiveness.
Please track our posts and updates over the coming weeks and we also look forward to seeing as many of our members as possible at our AGM on 12 June.
Neil Marshall, Chief Executive
