The Society continues to monitor and influence a range of important developments:
- Parliament. The Society will be hosting a drop-in session on 8 Septemeber in the House of Commons to remind MPs of the recruitment, retention and recognition value of the Armed Forces Pension Scheme. This is part of our upstream campaigning work.
- Public Sector Pension Reform. The right leaning Policy Exchange think tank argued that , with the exception of the Armed Forces, new joiners to public sector pensions should do so on defined contribution terms. Read the report at Public Sector Pension Reform.
- Pension Commission interim report. The Pension Commission’s interim report indicated likely changes to the State Pension Age, auto-enrolment, and decumulation. Members can read the report at Pensions 2050: evidence and future priorities – interim report
- The Northern Ireland Troubles Bill. This bill seeks to replace the Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act 2023 and is contentious. Read more here.
- Armed Forces Bill. This bill includes extension of the recall age from 55 to 65.
- Milroy. The Court of Session hearing to consider The MOD’s request for leave to appeal is scheduled for 8 Oct 2026. Read more about the case in our sitrep.
- Continuous Attitude Survey. There was a slight upturn in satisfaction with the AFPS on page 7 of the main report .
- Kings Birthday Honours List. In the Military Division of the King’s Birthday Honours List 2026, 133 personnel from the Royal Navy, Army, RAF and associated roles were recognised. - Armed Forces Pay Review Body (AFPRB) 2026 . The annual pay award for the Armed Forces was 3.6%.
